NoRiKo | Hudson Soft (Alfa System) | 1988 | This game was one of the two launch games for the PC-Engine CD-ROM system. Though it can hardly be called a game. You are in the role of a fanboy of a Japanese singer named Noriko Ogawa and visit one of her concerts. After the concert her manager gives you the opportunity to spend one day with her. You have the choice between a few activities (e.g. shopping or going to a disco), then you go to her home and play some mini-games like Jankenpon (Scissors-Paper-Stone) or a quiz about her life. Then she says 'Thanks and Goodbye'. That is all. There is no real goal in this game (at least I didn't found one) and it's very short. | labelimageminimize |
ROM² Karaoke Vol. 1 | NEC Avenue | 1989 | NEC Avenue and Victor released two separate Rom Rom Karaoke series, which confusingly are titled the same and both encompassed five volumes. The NEC products only featured karaoke scenes, the Victor products also featured a few minigames on each volume. | labelimageminimize |

Ultrabox Soukangou | Victor (Fun Project) | 1990 | Ultrabox is a CD-ROM "magazine" series featuring a strange conglomerate of simple games and information about games and things like Japanese idols. Not the first of its kind in the world of console games, because Sunsoft did a similar concept with the Nazoler Land games for the Famicom Disk System, but the CD-ROM format of course gives much more possibilities and space for a more elaborate presentation. | labelimageminimize |
